Stirling - Stirlingshire - Scotland.
Stirling was originally a stone age settlement and has been of strategic significance since the time of the Roman empire. The new city is known for its castle which is built on a volcanic plug and The national Wallace monument, built on a tree covered mount, from which, it is said, William Wallace oversaw a famous Scots victory over a larger and better equiped English army at the battle of Stirling bridge in 1297.
Many important events have taken place in Stirling throughout history. The church of the Holyrood, located near Stirling castle is one of the city's most historically important buldings. It was built in the 1400s just after a fire which devasted much of Stirling and is the only surviving church in the UK to have held a coronation outside of Westminster. James VI (son of mary queen of Scots) being crowned here.
The first powered flight in Scotland took place in 1909 when the Bramwell brothers who worked in Grampian motors, Causewayhead, Stirling, designed and flew their own aircraft. A small monument to Frank and Harold can been seen opposite the round about in Causewayhead.

Stirling has several 'ghostly' figures haunting its historic buildings. These include... The Green Lady of Stirling Castle. The Settle Inn near the Castle which is one of the most haunted places in Scotland. Other haunted pubs include "Nicky tams bar and bothy" and the Albion bar - named after the local football team Stirling Albion. .
