Avilés is the third most important city in Asturias and is located 26km from the capital, Oviedo on the north coast of Spain.

It is also the birth place of Pedro Menéndez de Avilés (February 15, 1519 - September 17, 1574), The first Spanish governor of Spanish Florida, he founded St. Augustine, the first permanent European settlement and oldest port city in the United States, on August 28, 1565.

How to get there.

Fly with Easyjet to London Stansted then change flights to Asturias. Avilés is ten minutes by taxi or you can catch a bus to the town centre from the front of the airport.
