"He who follows righteousness and mercy Finds life and righteousness and honour" (Pr 21:21)
Imagine a fleet of ships crewed by doctors, water
engineers, teachers, and agriculturists able to visit some of the world's
poorest cities. Now imagine their life-changing services, food, medicines,
and skills are offered free of charge.
The Mercy
Ships fleet which began as a dream
in 1978, has become a reality, bringing
hope to tens of thousands of people who could never have believed it
possible. Into a world of need, its dedicated volunteers bring their wide-ranging
skills to make a difference.
One of the reasons Mercy
Ships
accomplishes so much is because career and short-term volunteers raise
their own support and pay crew fees to serve. The staff and crews of the , drawn from over fifty nations, join together to serve the poor and needy. From doctors to deck hands, Mercy
Ships long-term staff and short-term
volunteers pay their own way to be a part of this unique project, allowing finances given to Mercy Ships to go directly to helping the
poor. In the countries
Mercy Ships visits, their surgeons have performed thousands of operations to correct cleft
palates and crossed eyes, to remove tumors and cataracts. These surgeries are otherwise unavailable for most of the population. Mercy
Ships provides all operations free of charge. What might be quite "small, simple operations" in Western terms can transform
lives in developing countries, ending the pain of stigma, ridicule, and
hopelessness.
Mercy Ships seeks to
become the face of love in action, bringing hope and healing to the
world's poor. If you would like to make a donation toward this work, please click here to visit Mercy Ships' website
