Pillarguri Days in Otta, Sel Kommune, Norway

You have just heard a "lur" played by Pillarguri, the rustic horn by which she signalled the ambush on Scots soldiers in Gudbrandsdalen in 1612...
Hear Pillarguri again

The Battle of Kringen, on 26th August 1612, is remembered each year in Otta, Sel Kommune in the valley of Gudbrandsdalen, after their heroine, Pillarguri, as the  "Pillarguri Festival"  on the weekend closest to the anniversary date.

The most famous name that passes down from history of the 1612 ambush is that of Colonel George Sinclair of the famous Caithness Clan Sinclair of Norse origin.  Sinclair's Club was founded to commemorate an event, important in modern Norwegian nationhood,  tragic for the CaithnessScots, but which has now created a bond between the peoples of Gudbrandsdalen and Caithness.
Sinclair's Club is formed by 6 life members who invite Members to the Pillarguri Committee, who run the Festival.
