X-Flow Exhaust - one way of doing it.

First step was to cut the Ford 4-branch manifold in two about 4" in front of the last (2 into 1) collector. Then I cut off the pipe stubs on the collector and ground the welds down so that I could get the remains of the pipes out of the collector and re-use it.

4 branch manifold cut down and re-welded
Second step was to bolt the manifold back in place and tack weld the collector back onto both manifold pipes, then to remove and fully weld.

Third step: I used a Chromerzone silencer which I got from Demon Tweeks mail order - not cheap even in the black finish and even dearer if you go for the full chrome job. The heat shield is an optional extra. But it does look nice and it sounds excellent. This unit fits with one (special) rubber bush through the aluminium panel by the passenger seat.

1st piece of the Transit pipe fitted over the collector outlet. The other end was shortened to accept the next bend.
Fourth step was to get a Transit down-pipe (2" diameter) which looked as if it had enough bends in it, and to cut the two pieces which would bring the pipe out through the side of the car and into line with the rest of the system. I also had to cut the hole through the side panel at this stage.

Both bends and flange tacked together. The last major bit was to fettle the pieces until they fitted and then to tack and finally fully weld them. There was a useful flange on the Transit pipe which is 2" internal diameter and which I cut off and welded on to my system to fit over the chromed side pipe.
The finished job. The Chromerzone silencer also comes in full chrome finish if you have the cash. And this is what it looks like. I used exhaust bandage on the bit of pipe I made - not that my welding isn't brilliant, but it improves the appearance as well as guarding against burns.
